Constructability and pre-planning 

Commonwealth Engineering and Construction has developed a set of tools, checklists and procedures from years of experience that address all aspects of constructability through the typical project phases. This begins with front-end loading (FEL), through detailed design and into actual construction.  

• Establishment of constructability goals and objectives: Meetings are convened to discuss and understand our client’s preferred construction execution means and methods and to set specific constructability agenda goals, objectives and outcomes
• Assembly of key project management and specialist personnel charged with executing the constructability agenda
• A disciplined regimen that forces the adoption of the constructability agenda
• The use of detailed engineering discipline and procurement Checklists define the opportunities, work processes and technical work product content
• Risk analyses employ the use of risk identification matrices to identify and highlight potential construction execution issues, pre-requisites and interfaces
• A backward schedule pass identifies construction constraints and delivery impacts that shape constructability means and methods
• A score card reports the results of the collective CEC constructability efforts and the cost avoidances realized
   

Field construction engineering

Commonwealth employs experienced engineers and designers with field design and construction engineering experience. Field engineering performs field surveys, measurements and assessments that are communicated to our home office. A field engineering works with the plant operator to understand and define the project scopre to meet the unique site conditions. The skills and services we offer in this area are such things as:

Pre-commissioning and start-up planning assistance

Commonwealth believes that any successful project needs to have an orderly transition from construction mechanical completion through pre-commissioning into steady state operation. We have experience in managing this transition. We believe proper startup planning starts in the design phase of a project and is completed during the mid to late construction phase in order that schedule is optimized and construction efficiency preserved.
